Creating Chess Ratings for Your Team

Greetings,

I apologize in advance for the lengthy email, but I tried to explain in detail all the steps needed for the tournament pairing tool.

For game times, I was thinking 10min on the clock for each player? If we have 6 rounds the tournament would at most last 2 hrs this way.

To rate the team, I conduct a small in-house tournament, with 5 or 6 rounds.  Their performance in the tournament would dictate their ranking on the team. I found the following website very helpful as it helps set up your tournament and calculates the standing: https://swisssystem.org/

Once you make an account, click Create Tournament:

then select the following play system:

and select the following options for the remaining options: (note: if you have enough time to administer 6 rounds that would be even better!).

once you click on Create Tournament, select Create Players by list and type in their name as such:

When you click save the list will appear. Click on the rounds tab:

then, generate rounds:

Once you do that it’ll give you the pairing for the first round as such:

once the games are done, you can select set results in between every pairing to put in the score. 1-0 means that white won, 0-1 means black won and 0.5-0.5 means draw. The option with F means that the opponent did not show up.
So, if we assume student D playing white beats student A in black, student B white lost to E black, and students F and C drew, the results would look like this:

The generate next round button in the top right corner will only show up once ALL pairings have a result inputted. The point behind all of this is that the site tracks all the results and generates the next pairing by attempting to have winners play vs winners and losers vs losers. It also keeps track of who played as white and who played as black and attempts to alternate colors for each player each round.

At the end of the tournament, the site will provide the standing including calculating tie breaks if any two players have the same score as follows:
